I spoke with the contractor "Travis" via phone. He stated the original deck came out 7' and was supported on a 5" cantilever at the house. Proposed deck plan is for it to be 8' out from the house. I advised that an engineer will need to approve or provide a design that the cantilever will support the deck load otherwise, inset the joists to bear at the house basement wall.
