Employee Falls from Trash Barrel, Later Dies
On August 24, 2010, Employee #1 was cleaning a restroom at a fairground. He put his leg in a trash barrel to push down the trash. He fell as he was bringing his leg out of the barrel. He struck his head and back on the concrete floor. The e mployee was able to crawl out of the restroom to get help. An ambulance responde d, but the employee was not taken to the hospital. The employee drove himself ho me that evening. The following day he drove himself to the hospital. He was admi tted for observation overnight. The following day, August 26th, he was airlifted to another hospital for surgery. Employee#1 died on August 28th in the hospital . The employer read about the death in the local newspaper. OSHA was notified of the death on September 28, 2010. One non-serious citation was proposed for not reporting the fatality within 8 hours to OSHA.
