Employee Is Pulled Into Grinder and Is Killed
At approximately 6:00 p.m. on February 18, 2009, at a remote logging location an employee and a coworker were preparing for end of the workday activities. Both had finished loading the last truck for the day with wood chips conveyed from a Vemeer HG600 horizontal grinder. The coworker was refueling the Barko loader fro m the west side of the grinder and observed the employee park a skid steer on th e east side of the grinder. The coworker noticed that the employee did not retur n and walked to the other side of the grinder to investigate. The employee had b ecome entangled in the Vemeer's belly and discharge conveyor and the idler rolle r. The employee was killed.
