Employee Is Killed When Crushed by Falling Tree
On February 21, 2005, Employee #1 was felling a birch tree (approximately 60-ft long and 10.5-in. diameter) at a Boy Scout camp. He made a conventional notch cu t, followed by a back cut completely through the trunk. When the birch tree fell , it struck another tree approximately 18 ft away. This caused the base of the b irch tree to swing up and strike his chest. Employee #1 was killed.
