Employee killed when run over by railroad car
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on July 29, 2002, Employee #1 was jogging beside a ra il car loaded with barley that was being pulled by a dump truck. He was holding onto an 8-ft long synthetic rope lanyard that was attached to the hook of the 25 -ft long tow strap connecting the rail car and the dump truck. Employee #1 was s upposed to pull on the lanyard to remove the hook from the rail car once it had enough momentum. The dump truck was then supposed to slow down and the rail car would continue to roll into the unloading area. Employee #1 fell or tripped and was struck by the spring-mounted wheel supports that protruded from the wheels o f the rail car. He rolled under the rail car wheels and was run over. Employee # 1 was killed.
